Shaping the National Spirit: Anushilan Samiti and the Foundations of Indian Nationalism

Author(s) Mr. Parth Khare
Country India
Abstract Anushilan Samiti emerged in early twentieth-century Bengal as a crucible of militant nationalism, fusing physical culture, Vedantic thought, and anti-colonial activism. This paper traces its evolution from a local gymnastic club to a pan-Bengal revolutionary network that reshaped the discourse of Indian nationalism. By analysing its ideological moorings, organizational strategies, and interactions with broader Swadeshi and cultural movements, the study illuminates how the Samiti laid durable foundations for subaltern agency and revolutionary praxis in India’s freedom struggle.
