| Abstract | The study explores the socio-economic challenges faced by unorganized workers in Madurai City, focusing on two key sectors: Auto drivers, and Construction workers. Despite their vital contributions to the economy, these workers face issues such as outdated work practices, limited access to financial services, poor working conditions, lack of job security, and minimal support from government schemes. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the research gathers insights through structured interviews and field observations to understand their working realities, health and safety risks, and economic vulnerabilities. The findings emphasize the need for inclusive policies, technological upskilling, and improved financial and social support systems. This study also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those targeting poverty reduction, decent work, and reduced inequality. The goal is to identify strategies that can uplift the livelihoods of these communities while enhancing social security and supporting sustainable development. |
