| Abstract | Geoheritage and Geotourism are gaining popularity all over the world due to their scientific, academic, historic, societal, cultural, and aesthetics significance. India's geology, geomorphology, and low level of development as a geoheritage and Geotourism site; makes it a unique landscape, with a lot of potential in this regard. This research work aims to analyse the different parameters and challenges to develop any geoheritage site into a Geotourism site. The methods used for this research include collecting data for some of the Geosites in India with regard to few significant criteria, such as scientific, cultural, educational, economical, historical, accessibility and visibility for the development of Geotourism destinations. Further SWOT analysis has been carried out on the selected Geosites and their potential to be a Geotourism spot has been determined. From the study it was identified that unique geology, morphology, distinct cultural values, easy accessibility, ecological values, regional aesthetic values, etc. are the few factors that prove the integrity of the sites to be a well-developed Geotourism spot. However, at instances very few significant factors can also play very important role in development of a Geotourism site. Based on the SWOT analysis and data analytics, Geotourism potential of the selected geoheritage sites has been determined. Major challenges imposed while developing these sites have been also identified. It has been identified from the study that conservation practices are key players in development of any Geotourism site. |
