Tracer Study of BS Hotel and Restaurant Management Graduates of Notre Dame of Marbel University, South Cotabato, Philippines

Abstract This study was conducted to determine the status of employment of the graduates of BS Hotel and Restaurant Management specifically in terms of their demographic profile, present employment profile, employment history and reasons for not being employed. Also, it includes the graduates’ level of preparation at NDMU, the skills they learned in college and the level of their satisfaction as NDMU student were also determined. The graduates’ recommendations and feedbacks that can be useful in making necessary improvements in the curriculum were also collected. The study used a descriptive research design and data were collected using the survey questionnaire patterned from the Graduate Tracer Study (GTS) survey form of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze and present the data. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents were 29-34 years old, female and currently employed in the private organizations. It took them one to six months in finding their first job after graduation and applied as walk-in applicants. Few pursue for post graduate studies and took master’s degree and doctoral degree program. All respondents experience being employed and accept their first job because it is related with their skills. Majority confirms that the degree in college is related with their first job. The graduates stayed for at least six months to one year in the first job before venturing into next job for career growth. Results shows that NDMU contributed a very high level of job preparation for graduates and skills on human relation, communication, creative skills, entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills are perceived to be very useful. The graduate respondents were very satisfied with their academic experiences and satisfied in terms of their student life in NDMU. Nevertheless, recommendation on providing more trainings and seminars, more hands-on activities and improve the laboratory facility were given to enhance the program.
