| Abstract | Healthcare workers are frequently exposed to persistent stress and professional burnout, which not only threaten their personal well-being but also diminish the overall quality of care provided to patients. This study examines how emotional intelligence (EI) relates to stress regulation and burnout, with a particular focus on whether higher EI strengthens resilience and lowers the likelihood of burnout. A mixed-methods design was applied, incorporating data from 200 medical staff across three hospitals. Standardized instruments—the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI)—were administered, alongside semi-structured interviews with 20 participants. Statistical findings revealed a significant positive association between EI and stress regulation (r = 0.68, p < .01), and a notable negative relationship between EI and burnout (r = −0.54, p < .01). Thematic insights highlighted self-awareness, empathy, and emotion regulation as key protective factors in demanding clinical settings. The outcomes indicate that professional development initiatives emphasizing EI may play an essential role in reinforcing resilience, reducing burnout, and enhancing organizational effectiveness. |
