| Abstract | This study explores the relationship between secondary school teachers’ awareness of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and their perceived challenges in its implementation. Drawing on data collected from 212 secondary school teachers, the research assesses awareness levels and perceived difficulties across key NEP dimensions, including Curriculum, Skills and Professional Development, Technology and Infrastructure, Quality Education, and Overall Policy Impact. Findings reveal that teachers exhibited a moderate to high level of awareness (mean score of 101, 85.96%) and similarly moderate perceived challenges (mean score of 87, 72.5%). Statistical analysis indicates a significant positive correlation between awareness and perceived challenges (r = 0.137, p < 0.05), suggesting that greater awareness is associated with heightened recognition of implementation difficulties. Furthermore, teaching experience, type of school, and subject specialization significantly influence challenge perception, with private school teachers and those with less experience reporting higher challenges. Demographic factors such as gender and age showed no significant impact on either awareness or challenges. The study underscores the intricate balance between policy knowledge and practical implementation barriers, recommending targeted professional development and infrastructural support to enhance successful NEP 2020 adoption among secondary educators. These insights provide valuable guidance for policymakers and educational stakeholders aiming to facilitate effective reforms in India’s secondary education sector. |
