| Abstract | Whenever we talk about gender equality and women empowerment, Dr. Ambedkar's name will definitely comes up. Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar is multifaceted personality and the chief architect of Indian constitution made significant contributions to gender equality and women empowerment. He always advocated gender equality and criticized orthodox patriarchal system. Apart from this, he also opposed orthodox Hindu systems like the sati system, child marriage, widow harassment and tried to improve the status of women, even women who were involved in bad practices and professionals like prostitution. One of Dr. Ambedkar's most important legislative initiatives to raise the position of women in India was the Hindu Code Bill. This bill could not be passed in its original form, but later some of its parts were adopted in the form of different acts, as a result, women could get justice due to the foresight of Dr. Ambedkar. In this paper, secondary data is used from research articles, newspapers, books, and different websites. The aim of the study is to explore Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions to women empowerment and investigate the conditions of women in Indian society. |
