Fan, Following, and Fandom: A Study of Indian Fanon Culture in Cinema, Politics and Sports

Author(s) Mr. Prabal Dweep Debbarma, Dr. Aditya Ghosh
Country India
Abstract Fanon as the name suggests in a unofficial/unsanctioned creation of a fan in dedication to their idol, which in the modern context is seemingly clouding over official canon literature. Another point of note is the fact that, Indian fanon in comparison to the western, is highly susceptible to oral traditions and a unique reverence that keeps it apart. Hence, this study aims to assess the rise of Indian fanon literature built at close proximity with Indian fandom. Studying the cases of three prominent fan arenas in India - Cinema, Politics and Sports, this study aims to assess how the Indian fanon has fared in evolution, from the Pre-digital era to the modern contemporary boom in technological advancements. Thus, the primary goal of this study seeks to establish the Indian Fanon culture as a noteworthy entity in fanon and fandom structures across world cultures.
