Land Revenue Administration: A Historical Perspective
| Author(s) | Mr. Harpreet Singh |

| Abstract | Land Revenue Administration refers to the system by which governments manage and collect revenue derived from land and related services. This includes assessing, collecting, and managing taxes on land, as well as maintaining land records and administering land-related laws. It essentially encompasses the government's role in overseeing land ownership, use, and revenue generation from land resources. Generally land revenue implies collection of taxes on land produce. We come across a general statement that the king was entitled for a share based on the income or spiritual merits. This share of the state was revenue, which was received in kind. This share of the state or the land tax was received in kind. This share of the state or the land tax was not permanently fixed. It varied according to the exigencies of the state finance. However, a long list of taxes likes one-sixth, one-eighth or one-tenth of the agricultural production, the variation probably being due to difference in the quality of the land. |
