| Abstract | This paper explores the challenges and strategies for effectively adapting Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programmes for children from marginalised communities in India. While SEL has emerged as a critical component of holistic education, its implementation in rural, tribal, and socio-economically disadvantaged contexts faces significant barriers, including cultural incompatibility, limited resources, lack of trained educators, and minimal community engagement. Using an explanatory research design and reflexive analysis of practitioner perspectives, the study identifies key approaches to designing inclusive SEL curricula that are culturally responsive, multilingual, and gender-sensitive. It emphasises integrating local narratives, fostering community participation, and leveraging asset-based approaches that build on children’s resilience and strengths. The paper also highlights the importance of collaborative stakeholder engagement, capacity-building of educators, and decentralised feedback mechanisms to create enabling environments for sustainable SEL integration. Ultimately, it argues for a holistic, context-driven framework that bridges structural inequities and enhances children’s emotional well-being, academic outcomes, and social inclusion. |
