| Abstract | The content quality and pedagogical structure of YouTube educational videos that are designed for competitive examination preparation and its usefulness are observed and studied for this research. This paper also examines the learner engagement attributes in the selected YouTube channels undertaken for the study. Some competitive examinations conducted by the Union government like the UPSC and SSC and many TNPSC examinations, including the Group IV and VAO are conducted in Tamil for which YouTube has become the learning resource among many rural aspirators. A systematic analysis of the top 200 videos, ranked by views, likes and relevance are assessed, with an evaluation framework that examines four critical aspects such as accuracy of content, instructional design quality, engagement strategies employed and viewer feedback. Findings also highlight concerns like misinformation, disorganised content and excessive promotional materials that compromise the reliability of YouTube videos. The research also reveals that Tamil educational content provides a culturally accessible alternative to English-dominated edtech, with simplified explanations, regional examples, and motivational tones. |
