| Abstract | The ecologically delicate Kodagu district, which is part of the Western Ghats, is becoming more and more susceptible to hazards brought on by climate change, like landslides and floods. Agriculture is disrupted by these frequent disasters, harm infrastructure and exacerbate socioeconomic insecurity among land-dependent households, based on incomes, Crop, property, and microinsurance are examples of insurance mechanisms that are their function in Kodagu is still to serve as financial risk-transfer instruments that enhance resilience restricted as a result of low institutional capacity, poor accessibility, bureaucratic hold-ups, and low awareness. This study looks at insurance as a component of a larger disaster risk management strategy rather than in isolation framework, stressing the value of institutional accountability, community involvement, and improving adaptive resilience through financial inclusion. By evaluating the vulnerabilities of households in conjunction with systemic obstacles, exposing deficiencies in the way national disaster risk reduction plans are integrated and the rigidity of the models in use today. The study promotes inclusive, adaptable, and community-centered insurance strategies that support long-term planning and match financial instruments with disaster readiness adaptability to climatic uncertainties. |
