Abstract Rural women entrepreneurs have emerged as vital contributors to the growth and sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India. Despite their growing participation, these entrepreneurs often encounter diverse challenges that hinder their full potential. This paper presents a structured SWOT analysis of rural women entrepreneurs in the Kumaun region, drawing upon empirical evidence collected from microenterprise units. The analysis highlights the inherent strengths of rural women, such as resilience, community-based support, and adaptability, while also identifying weaknesses including limited access to capital, skill gaps, and restricted mobility. Opportunities arising from government schemes, digital inclusion, and emerging rural markets are emphasized, alongside external threats such as market competition, policy uncertainties, and infrastructural barriers. By synthesizing these dimensions, the paper underscores the need for strategic interventions to empower rural women entrepreneurs and enhance their contribution to sustainable regional development.
