Abstract This study examines the role of safety perceptions within Chitthi groups—informal savings mechanisms widely used in Indian communities. The objective is to explore how various dimensions of safety such as financial security, trust in leadership, and group transparency interrelate and influence participation. A sample of 50 participants from Surat was selected through snowball sampling. Using correlation analysis, the study identifies significant relationships among members’ perceptions of safety. The findings indicate that operational reliability and leader trust play critical roles in establishing confidence in the system, reinforcing Chitthi as a viable alternative to formal financial institutions.
