| Abstract | This study explores the impact of family responsibilities on women’s career growth in Pune’s IT industry, a rapidly expanding technology hub in India. Despite increasing female participation in the workforce, women remain underrepresented in mid-management and leadership positions, often due to the disproportionate burden of childcare, eldercare, household duties, and career breaks. The research adopts a descriptive design using primary data collected from 60 women professionals across different age groups, marital statuses, and job levels. Regression and ANOVA analyses reveal that family responsibilities significantly hinder women’s career progression, limiting opportunities for promotions and leadership roles. While organizational support mechanisms such as flexible work arrangements exist, the results show they are not sufficient to offset the negative effects of caregiving demands. The findings emphasize the urgent need for IT organizations in Pune to strengthen policies around childcare facilities, flexible career pathways, equitable evaluation systems, and stronger spousal and institutional support. The study contributes to the understanding of work–family dynamics in a growing IT cluster and provides actionable insights for organizations and policymakers to enhance women’s career continuity and advancement. |
