ASPICE vs CMMI: Which is Better?

Author(s) Krishna Chaitanya Mamidala
Country United States
Abstract Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) are two prominent models used for process improvement and assessment in software engineering. Although both aim to enhance process capabilities and product quality, they differ significantly in origin, structure, application, and assessment approaches.
The debate between Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) continues to shape decisions across software-intensive industries. Each framework provides distinct strengths depending on industry requirements, process maturity goals, and regulatory expectations. This paper investigates which model may be better suited for specific organizational needs by analyzing key attributes, strengths, weaknesses, and industry fit, supported by comparative tables and graphs. This paper also provides a detailed comparative analysis of ASPICE and CMMI, using structured tables and graphical illustrations to highlight similarities, differences, and application scenarios.
Keywords ASPICE, CMMI, Process Improvement, Capability Assessment, Automotive Software, Software Engineering Models.
