| Abstract | This research investigates the evolution of e-commerce platforms from 2010 to 2025 and their influence on the growth of small businesses. The central question guiding the study is: How have digital platforms, business models, and technological innovations shaped the opportunities and challenges for small businesses in the global digital economy? The study examines the development of key e-commerce models (B2C, B2B, C2C, and D2C) and the contrasting roles of centralized versus decentralized platforms. It highlights how emerging technologies such as cloud computing, mobile-first design, live streaming, APIs, and fintech infrastructure have transformed business operations. Case studies of Amazon, Shopify, and Etsy demonstrate how platforms expand market access, streamline logistics, and support entrepreneurship, while also creating dependencies and inequities. The COVID-19 pandemic is analyzed as a catalyst for accelerated digital transformation, driving mobile commerce, digital payments, and omnichannel strategies, while revealing vulnerabilities for small enterprises. The findings conclude that e-commerce platforms have become critical enablers of small business growth by lowering barriers to entry, expanding global reach, and enhancing customer engagement. However, long-term sustainability requires addressing platform dependence, digital inequities, and regulatory challenges. The research underscores that future small business success will hinge on the ability to adapt to an evolving platform economy. |
