Author(s) Dr. Awadhesh Kumar
Country India
Abstract This paper has studied the rural economy of Mithila with the help of socio-economic status of this region. This socio-economic status has been defined on the basis of education level as well as employability of this region. The supporting data is extracted from NSSO 70th round, 2012-13. As per this study, it is found that around 51 percent of rural people in this region are illiterate whereas the trend of education from primary to graduate and above educated rural people shows declining in nature. As far as employability is concern, 67 percent people of this region are doing ‘cultivation’ as the major principal source of income out of this 68 percent OBC are engaged in this source of income. Hence, it is clearly observed that less literacy more dependency on cultivation.
