Abstract Evidence‑based practice (EBP)—the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and client values—has long been advocated in social work; yet, in India, the extent to which EBP is taught and used in practice remains unclear. The objective of the study is to assess (a) the state of EBP within Indian social‑work research (2013–2023) and (b) the presence of EBP content in Master of Social Work (MSW) curriculum at highly ranked Indian institutions. Following Arksey & O’Malley’s scoping‑review framework and PRISMA‑ScR guidance, we conducted a review: synthesizing peer‑reviewed literature on EBP/empirically supported treatments (ESTs) in India; performing a structured content analysis of MSW syllabi from eight nationally ranked programs plus IGNOU. The indexed literature directly examining EBP or ESTs in Indian social work remains sparse and interdisciplinary; included studies emphasized implementation barriers (time, funding, training), organizational determinants (leadership, culture), and provider attitudes. curriculumr analysis showed EBP coverage is uneven across programs, with only a subset offering dedicated modules or courses. Bridging the research‑to‑practice gap will require explicit EBP learning outcomes in curriculum, faculty development, supervised skills training in ESTs, and organizational support in field agencies. A theory‑of‑change is presented to align educational, field, and research systems to strengthen EBP use.
