Hypertension and Diabetes: A Common Comorbidity - A Comprehensive Review
| Author(s) | Ms. HARSHNA RICHARD QADIR |

| Country | India |
| Abstract | Hypertension and diabetes mellitus, particularly type 2 diabetes, are two of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide and often coexist in the same individual. This review explores the epidemiology, shared risk factors, pathophysiological mechanisms, clinical implications, and management approaches of this comorbidity. Evidence from global studies indicates that more than half of individuals with type 2 diabetes also develop hypertension, significantly increasing their risk for cardiovascular, renal, and neurological complications. The review highlights the need for integrated care, multidisciplinary management, and lifestyle interventions, while identifying gaps in research regarding long-term outcomes of combined treatment strategies. |
