| Abstract | Manual prodding remains a critical but hazardous step in humanitarian demining. We present a smart prodder that augments conventional technique with integrated sensors: a piezo transducer (active tapping + passive contact response), a load/force sensor, an acoustic pickup for seismic acoustic signal, a front-end metal detector, and magnetic sensing for residual magnetic anomalies. Embedded signal processing estimates object material/voidness (<5cm3 for an A/pers mine), metallicity, and ferromagnetic signature while enforcing safety envelopes for force and insertion angle. We detail hardware architecture, conditioning circuits, algorithms, sensor fusion logic, HMI/feedback, calibration, and test plans. Field testing and data collection enable discrimination of mine vs. scrap while reducing dangerous false digs and over force/angle events. |
