Digital Transformation in Rural Punjab: A Study of Digital Literacy and E-Commerce Adoption

Author(s) Dr. Gaurav Kumar
Country India
Abstract This paper examines the ongoing digital transformation in rural Punjab, focusing on four key areas: digital literacy among youth, adoption of e-commerce in small businesses, online learning in rural colleges, and mobile payment usage in villages. Drawing on secondary research from government reports, academic studies, and policy initiatives, the study highlights both the opportunities and challenges of bridging the rural–urban digital divide. Findings indicate that digital adoption in rural Punjab has the potential to enhance education, empower small businesses, and improve financial inclusion. The paper also emphasizes the role of local institutions in supporting these initiatives. In this context, National College of IT, Muktsar, established in 2001, is contributing by offering computer literacy programs and conducting awareness drives for students and surrounding communities, thereby assisting in the step-by-step process of digital adoption.
