Abstract Water quality depends on physicochemical and hydrobiological characteristics, which reflect the biotic state of the ecosystem. Physicochemical parameters of the Gandak River were studied for 6 months from October 2023 to March 2024 at Gaj-Grah Ghat, Sonpur, Saran (Bihar), India during Kartik Poornima Mela . Water samples were collected every month for analyzing various physical and chemical parameters and the obtained results were compared with standard values. The selected physicochemical factors analyzed during the study were temperature, turbidity, pH, total hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), electrical conductivity (EC), phosphate, and chloride. These properties were analyzed and compared with the standard values recommended by the Bureau of Indian Standards and World Health Organization (WHO).
