| Abstract | Pro-Poor Tourism (PPT) investigates how tourism development can enhance the economic conditions of impoverished or marginalized local communities. It emphasizes the importance of cooperation among tourism stakeholders by involving disadvantaged individuals in both employment opportunities and the decision-making process; as a result, PPT motivates the local community to play a more proactive role in its own development. Ziro Valley, situated in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, is a renowned tourist destination with considerable potential for tourism development. Although it has become a tourism hotspot in the state, very little research has been conducted to assess PPT as a means of community development. Thus, the primary aim of this paper is to explore the concept of pro-poor tourism, identify the pro-poor nature of tourism that exists in the study area, and consider PPT as a strategy for community development. Finally, it aims to recognize barriers in implementing PPT initiatives. This study also provides insightful suggestions to ensure the success of PPT initiatives. |
