| Abstract | English-speaking proficiency is a crucial academic and professional skill, particularly in countries like the Philippines, where English serves as a second language and the primary medium of instruction in schools. This study investigated into the English-speaking proficiency among selected college students in one of the higher education institutions in Ozamiz City. The Appreciative Inquiry (AI) design was employed, with three participants selected through purposive sampling. An Interview Guide was used in gathering the data that were analyzed using the 4-D Model (Discovery, Dream, Design, Destiny) by Cooperrider and Whitney (2000). The study revealed the following emergent themes: clarity of aspirations and motivational drivers; envisioning greater success; co-creating effective strategies; and institutional systems and sustainable practices. The study highlights the importance of nurturing positive enablers and focusing on an educational thrust that builds on students' existing strengths. It is recommended for schools to integrate innovative English instruction that cultivates empowering and engaging language learning experiences for college students. |
