Fractured Peace: Assessing Educational, Health, and Mental-Health Challenges of Displaced Children in Manipur’s Churachandpur Camps

Abstract This study examines the effects of the 2023 ethnic conflict in Manipur on internally displaced Kuki-Zo children living in relief centres. It explores the emotional, educational, and physical hardships faced by these children as they navigate life away from their homes. The findings reveal deep psychological distress, disrupted learning, poor health conditions, and a sense of lost childhood. These children, caught in a crisis beyond their control, remain overlooked in broader peace efforts. The study emphasizes that true peace must include healing, justice, and care for the most vulnerable. It calls for a child-centred approach to rebuilding lives, one that restores dignity, hope, and a sense of belonging. The paper also examines whether the value of peace is truly as encompassing as its definition, or as it is taught in classrooms.
