| Abstract | Breast lesions are a common clinical concern, with fibro-adenomas and fibrocystic changes being among the most prevalent benign conditions. Accurate differentiation between these lesions is crucial for appropriate clinical management and to avoid unnecessary interventions. Mammography and ultrasound are the primary imaging modalities used for evaluating breast lesions. This paper examines the effectiveness of these techniques in distinguishing fibro-adenomas from other benign breast lesions, particularly in the presence of fibrocystic changes. A review of current literature indicates that while mammography provides valuable structural information, ultrasound offers superior real-time characterization of lesion morphology and vascularity. However, overlapping imaging features in fibrocystic breasts can pose diagnostic challenges. Combining both modalities improves diagnostic accuracy, but in dense breast tissue, ultrasound may be more reliable. Further advancements in imaging techniques, such as elastography and contrast-enhanced ultrasound, may enhance differentiation in complex cases. |
