Abstract Migration is defined broadly as a permanent or semi permanent change of residence. In every area there are countless push & pull factors which act to hold people within the area or attract people to it, and there are others which tend to repel them. There are several aspects relating to migration from Kumaun region of Uttarakhand that need to be looked at from the viewpoints of enhancing understanding and policy and action. The proportion migrating for economic reasons is greater among long-distance migrants; most male migrants moving between states did so far for economic reasons. Logistic regression analysis is used to identify the factors, which have a significant influence on the decision to out-migrate and their relative impact. Thus this paper aims to evaluate the out-migration with reference to various explanatory variables. The primary data is collected through an intense survey work with the help of schedule interview. The study includes that the major cause of out-migration is due to marriage in female followed by better job opportunities, being the lack of local employment avenues and to pursue study.
