Transforming Science Education through Gamification: A Review of Strategic Pedagogical Innovations.

Author(s) Mr. Swaviman Subhendu Mohanty, Ms. Biswarupa Behera
Country India
Abstract Gamification - the strategic use of game design elements (e.g., goals, feedback, points, narrative, and social play) in non-game learning contexts has emerged as a powerful lever for improving student motivation, persistence, and conceptual understanding in science. Evidence from global research is contrasted with the Indian higher education context, particularly in light of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes innovation, digital learning, and learner-centric pedagogy. This review-based study critically examines theoretical rationales, design frameworks, classroom models, empirical patterns, implementation challenges, and future directions for gamifying science pedagogy across primary, secondary, and undergraduate settings. Reviewers differentiate gamification from full game-based learning, map game mechanics to science learning outcomes (conceptual, procedural, and epistemic), and additionally provide a practical roadmap aligned with widely used instructional frameworks (5E, TPACK, UDL, and mastery-based progression). The review concludes with an implementation checklist, assessment strategies, future research directions on strategic gamifaction of science pedagogy.
