| Abstract | This study examines the adoption, usage patterns, and behavioural impacts of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) applications among youth in Zawlnuam, Mizoram which lies at the tri-junction of three states with demographic growth and increasing digital connectivity. Using a descriptive research design and purposive sampling, primary data were collected from 47 respondents under the age of 40 through an online questionnaire. Findings reveal near‑universal awareness of UPI, with adoption concentrated among economically active, digitally literate young men, particularly the self‑employed. UPI has transitioned from novelty to a primary transaction mode, facilitating both personal and entrepreneurial payments, including high‑value transfers. However, gaps persist in women’s participation. Psychological drivers such as convenience and speed underpin frequent use, but also correlate with impulsive spending and subsequent regret. While trust in platform security is strong and offline merchant adoption is rising, the community views UPI as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, cash. The paper recommends targeted financial literacy initiatives, gender‑responsive digital inclusion strategies, and infrastructural improvements to translate widespread UPI uptake into sustained financial discipline and community‑wide economic empowerment. |
