The Economics of Organ Donation in India

Author(s) Mr. Veiom Guptaa
Country Bahrain
Abstract The Indian organ donation landscape is mired in economic imbalances, supply inadequacies, and institutional bottlenecks, resulting in systemic welfare losses and negative externalities in production and consumption. The loss to life and property arising out of this scenario cannot be quantified and yet must be. We look at the regulation of organ donation in India, its costs, and the economic impact of the demand-supply gap created in this market on the general lives of Indians, directly or otherwise and resulting black market practices.
