| Abstract | performance, poor quality, schedule overruns, and overpriced and abandoned projects characterize road construction in Zambia. This study evaluated the risk management practices utilized in the Zambian road sector. Data was collected using questionnaires sent out to contractors and consultants involved in road construction in the last six years. Sixty-two questionnaires were sent, and 33 responses were received, with an overall response rate of 53.23%. The data used was found to be reliable using the A Cronbach Alpha at 0.982. Means, standard deviation, Pareto analysis, and One Sample T-test were conducted to make various inferences on the utility of different risk management practices. The results established that the risk management practices were found to be relatively used at multiple stages except for the risk analysis practices that were barely utilized. The R.M. maturity level in Zambia's road sector is novice, characterized by awareness of tools and unsystematic utility. In the risk analysis stage, maturity could be termed as naïve. Therefore, construction players on road projects must focus on acquiring risk management skills in tools and techniques, especially in risk analysis |
