Country India
Abstract The Tai Aiton people, an indigenous community of Assam, possess a rich cultural heritage in which music and dance serve as integral expressions of collective identity. Among their traditional musical instruments, the Gong occupies a central place, functioning simultaneously as a ritualistic, symbolic, and social medium. This paper examines the cultural, religious, and social significance of the Gong in Tai Aiton society, highlighting its roles in rituals, festivals, and community bonding. It also explores the transformations of Gong traditions in the face of modernization, thereby situating the instrument within broader discourses of cultural continuity, resilience, and preservation
