Analyzing Women's Political Participation in Uttarakhand: An Analytical Study

Abstract To ensure that all women have equal rights and are treated properly, it is really inclusive and only necessary for the creation of society. While men and women may experience differences in roles or respect in certain situations, these differences should never be used as a reason for discrimination. For anyone, really fair, complete social, economic and political participation should be enabled without obstacles. Despite the efforts at home and world to promote gender equality, women face deep, systemic obstacles in many parts of life. It takes more than providing only equal opportunities to deal with this inequality - it asks laws, institutions and cultural norms to look closely that affects women's lives every day. A clear example is the lack of women representing in politics, especially in decision making places like Parliament. Regarding the political participation of women in the politics our Constitution, introduced the active participation of women in governance in 73rd Amendment which is as important as to protect their rights. In India, the 73rd Constitutional Amendment has brought invaluable changes in the democratic decentralized system for women's participation. This amendment has opened new avenues for women to become members and study members of Panchayati Raj at all three levels - Gram Panchayat, Regional Panchayat and District Panchayat. Women are making their new identity as Panchayat members. In this paper we discuss the how this amendment has opened new avenues for women to become members and study members of Panchayati Raj at all three levels - Gram Panchayat, Regional Panchayat and District Panchayat. Women are making their new identity as Panchayat members. The first phase of elections in Uttarakhand, a state formed in 2000, was held in 2003. After this, four phases of three-tier Panchayati Raj elections were held in 2008, 2014, 2019, and the fifth three-tier Panchayati Raj elections are currently scheduled in July 2025. Also how women of Uttarakhand represent their state at the Parliamentary Level.
