Abstract This study explores the information-seeking behaviour of Ph.D. scholars in Library and Information Science (LIS) at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) during 2013–2018. Using a descriptive survey method, 52 valid responses (86.6%) were analyzed through a structured questionnaire and interviews.
The results show that thesis or dissertation writing (88%) and publishing research papers (74%) were the main purposes for seeking information. Digital resources dominated, with daily use of websites (55%) and e-journals (43%). Overall, websites (90%) and e-journals (85%) were the most used, while print journals (46%) were less preferred. Scholars preferred print for books (62%) but digital for journals (72%) and theses/reports (65%).
Major challenges included poor internet speed (54%), difficulty in evaluating online information (47%), and lack of awareness of e-resources (41%). Library services such as access to e-resources (72%) and reference services (58%) were frequently used. Satisfaction levels showed 44% satisfied and 21% very satisfied, while 15% expressed dissatisfaction. Suggestions highlighted remote access to e-resources (71%), better ICT infrastructure (63%), and training workshops (55%).
The study concludes that LIS scholars rely heavily on digital resources alongside print. Strengthening ICT, awareness, and training can further enhance research productivity.
