| Abstract | The Nilgiris, a verdant and ecologically distinctive district in Tamil Nadu, constitutes a substantial part of the Western Ghats, forming a unique confluence of the Western and Eastern Ghats. This enchanting region is a coveted summer retreat, enticing tourists from India and abroad with its breathtaking vistas and resplendent natural beauty. A comprehensive analysis of the district's ecological and economic dynamics reveals a complex interplay between its unique biodiversity, climate, and land use patterns, underscoring the need for a nuanced understanding of the region's sustainability challenges. The district's salubrious climate, stunning topography, and luxuriant vegetation render it a veritable paradise for holidaymakers, generating significant economic benefits for local communities. However, the increasing influx of tourists poses significant challenges to the region's ecological sustainability, including habitat degradation, resource depletion, and loss of biodiversity. The picturesque gardens, coffee plantations, and majestic hills, cloaked in a resplendent purple hue, collectively contribute to its allure, attracting a multitude of visitors annually. Nevertheless, the unsustainable utilization of natural resources and unchecked tourism development threaten the region's ecological integrity, necessitating a multifaceted approach to sustainable development. |
