Role of Education in Rural Women Empowerment in Bihar:a Sociological Study (With Special Reference to Madhepura District, Bihariganj Block, Madhukar Chak Panchayat)

| Abstract | Abstract: Background: Role of education in rural women empowerment is the most important and natural phenomena leading to human progress and development. The role of education in empowering the rural women is multidimenational. It has the social, political and economical aspect in the history of democratic India. Education is the backbone of society and largely responsible for empowering amd uplifting the socio-economic status of a women, particularly in the state of Bihar. As Gandhi Ji said "Educate one man you educate one person, educate a women and you educate a whole civilization." Women education should not only create good wives and mothers as expected in the past, but should also enable them to become career women as well as responsible citizens capable of making independent decisions. (Prof Dr. D.S. Kothari). On 3rd March,2025, The Finance Minister of Bihar presented the budget of Rs.3.17 crore in the Bihar assembly prioritizing education and women's empowerment. Materials and Methods: The present research paper has two main objectives:- (1).To know the status of education amongst rural women of Madhepura District in Bihar (2).To know the role of Education in rural women empowerment in Madhepura District in Bihar and it's Socio -Economic impact. In this prospective descriptive scientific method and data was collected through Schedule of 40 respondent and analyzed through statistical methods. Data was collected from primary and secondary sources, published books, thesis, research articles, magazines and daily newspapers were used as secondary sources. Results: It can be concluded that the women who live in the rural areas of Madhukar Chak Panchayat, Bihariganj Block of Madhepura District are getting benefits of the educational flagship schemes launched by the Government of Bihar. 98 percent students who are studying in primary and middle school are now interested in education by getting influenced by the various facilities provided by the Government viz. school dress, scholarship, Mid-Day Meal, Cycle distribution scheme etc. Women are also getting benefit of other schemes and provisions provided by the Government of Bihar. Many such families were found who have received the several benefits of scheme related to housing, (PMAY), Toilet( SBM), Cooking gas Cylinder (Ujjwala Yojana), Ration(Antyodaya Yojana), Nal Jal Yojna, Education( Mid day meal), Health, Employment, Animal husbandry scheme etc. Specially, the provision of 50% reservation for women candidates in Panchayati raj system is really a boon in disguise. Madhepura District is economically sound region of Bihar where the per capita income is Rs.61000(2024-25) but the literacy level is very low. In comparison to the total literacy of 52.3%, the female literacy is only 41.7%. The female literacy rate in Madhukar Chak Panchayat is only 38.74%. Conclusion:-asBased on the results obtained from the collection and analysis of data in the present research article it can be stated that the women who are living in the rural areas of Madhepura District should get full advantage of the flagship scheme. Certainly, it can be said that the multifarious government schemes have helped them to improve their educational, social and financial condition, enhancing their situation in the power structure of society, contribute to the strength and prosperity of their family, society, state and nation as a whole. But, there are innumerous challenges in Bihar and particularly in Madhukar Chak Panchayat which somewhere hinders the liberty and empowerment of women such as early marriage, gender discrimination, poverty and patriarchal social structure etc which is a deep concern and is still persistent. |
