A Study On The Effectiveness Of YouTube As An Educational Tool Amongst The Students Of Higher Educational Institutions

Abstract The study explores the effectiveness of YouTube as an educational tool among students of higher educational institutions in Guwahati City. With digital learning gaining prominence, YouTube has emerged as a significant supplementary platform for academic content delivery. The research adopts a descriptive survey method, utilizing a structured questionnaire distributed to 125 respondents selected through snowball sampling. The findings reveal that majority of students (89%) use YouTube for academic purposes, and (86%) uses it specifically for exam preparation. Lectures and tutorials are the most preferred content types. Students report improved academic performance, better comprehension of complex topics, and increased engagement due to platform’s audiovisual appeal. However, concerns such as distraction, content credibility, and time management persist. The study suggests content curation, time management training, and integration of YouTube into curricula to maximize its educational value. Overall, YouTube proves to be an effective, flexible, and accessible educational aid when strategically used.
