Banking Loyalty Programs for a Sustainable Future: Enhancing Customer Engagement through Green Finance Initiatives

Author(s) Ms. SHWETA MISHRA, Dr. BHARAT SIDDHARTH
Country India
Abstract The Indian banking sector is increasingly focusing on sustainability, integrating green finance initiatives into customer engagement strategies. This theoretical study looks at how loyalty programs can improve consumer engagement and encourage environmentally responsible banking habits. The study builds a conceptual framework that connects loyalty programs, digital platforms, customer engagement, adoption and retention of green finance, and customer engagement by drawing on Relationship Marketing Theory, Customer Engagement Theory, Theory of Planned Behaviour, and Stakeholder Theory. Leading Indian banks' case studies—SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Yes Bank—showcase how green loyalty programs, like reward points for paperless transactions, green loans, and investments in renewable energy, promote sustainable financial practices while enhancing client loyalty. The study emphasizes how loyalty programs and sustainability may be combined to improve consumer satisfaction, encourage long-term participation, and support India's sustainable development objectives.
