Emojis- Bridging the Cultural and Generational Gap

| Abstract | Emojis have become a significant component of digital communication functioning. They are the tools that transcend linguistic boundaries. This study examines their role in the cultural and generational gap by enabling shared expression across diverse context. This research, conducted by a collaborative team of student researchers under academic supervision, investigates how emojis influence communication, context, and emotional expression across generations. Targeting participants aged 10 to 61+, the research explores variations in emoji interpretation and usage among different age groups. Using a primary survey method, an online questionnaire was distributed via WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat, yielding 100 responses for analysis. Despite their widespread use, emojis remain under explored in communication research. This study addresses this gap by examining how emojis shape meaning and emotional tone in digital conversations, providing valuable insights into generational differences and their impact on modern communication practices. synthesising insights from linguistic, media studies and intercultural communication the study argues that emojis serve as adaptable symbols global digital disclosure, fostering shared understanding while revealing the complexities of emojis in cross cultural contacts. |
