Thyroid Disorders: Integration of Science and Tradition

Author(s) Ms. Sneh Singh, Dr. Shubhra Saraswat
Country India
Abstract Thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, goiter, nodules, and cancer, are common endocrine conditions affecting metabolism, growth, and development. Conventional treatments involve hormone replacement, antithyroid drugs, radioactive iodine, and surgery, depending on the specific condition. Ayurveda offers a holistic perspective, viewing thyroid disorders as imbalances in doshas and metabolism, and utilizes herbal medicines like Kanchanara Guggulu and Ashwagandha, alongside detoxification therapies such as Panchakarma. This review highlights the classification, management, and interventions for thyroid disorders in both modern medicine and Ayurveda, emphasizing the potential benefits of an integrative approach and the need for further research to validate traditional therapies.
Keywords thyroid, Ayurveda, therapies, metabolism, conventional treatment.
