Abstract Non-carious tooth surface loss is common in clinical dentistry. It encompasses four main processes: attrition, abrasion, erosion and abfraction. These processes progressively remove enamel, dentin, or cementum without the presence of bacteria. Collectively, they can cause pain, sensitivity, functional impairment, and aesthetic concerns. This review defines each condition, explains pathophysiology and clinical features, and covers diagnosis, management, and prevention from clinical and patient-education perspectives.
