| Abstract | This research investigates the reliability and performance of the cold rolling mill stands at the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) through a structured methodology combining historical production and stoppage records, statistical analysis, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) measurement, and discrete event simulation using Arena software. The analysis focuses on three primary stands: rolling, annealing, and recoiling. Key reliability indicators such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) were extracted from field failure data and fitted to statistical distributions. These metrics were incorporated into a simulation model to replicate and assess operational behavior. Results revealed substantial performance losses caused by internal technical failures and external factors, particularly electricity and coil availability issues. The rolling stand exhibited the lowest reliability and highest downtime. The simulation model closely matched historical data, validating the reliability estimations and providing a tool for scenario testing. The findings underscore the importance of targeted maintenance strategies, predictive interventions, and data-driven decision-making to enhance machine availability and production quality |
