Abstract 2.Abstract
Peace, security, and development are universally acknowledged as the three interconnected pillars of a stable and progressive world order. The United Nations Organization (UNO), since its establishment in 1945, has placed these values at the core of its mission through peacekeeping operations, counter-terrorism strategies, and multilateral diplomacy aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For India, which aspires to transform into a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047—the centenary of its independence—peace and security are indispensable foundations for achieving sustainable development.
This paper examines the UNO’s global role in maintaining peace and promoting development, while analyzing how India aligns its national security strategy with its developmental aspirations. The study highlights India’s active participation in UN peacekeeping missions, its firm stance on counter-terrorism, and its consistent advocacy for multilateral reforms, particularly in the United Nations Security Council. At the domestic level, India’s initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India, Make in India, and investments in renewable energy demonstrate the integration of economic growth, security preparedness, and sustainable practices.
The research argues that the nexus of peace, security, and development is not only critical for global stability but also central to India’s developmental trajectory. However, challenges such as regional geopolitical tensions, terrorism, climate change, and global inequality persist. The findings suggest that India’s aspiration for Viksit Bharat @2047 can only be realized through a balanced approach that strengthens national security, deepens global partnerships, and aligns with the UNO’s vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
