An overview of the Stone Age economic system in India: a brief study

Author(s) Dr. Om Prakash Sukhwal
Country India
Abstract The Stone Age, spanning approximately 3.4 million to 3,300 BCE, represents humanity's longest economic epoch, characterized by hunter-gatherer subsistence strategies and emerging agricultural practices. This paper examines the economic systems that governed human societies during this period, analyzing subsistence patterns, resource management, exchange networks, technological innovation, and social organization. Through archaeological evidence and anthropological analysis, we explore how Stone Age communities developed sophisticated economic strategies that ensured survival and laid the foundation for more complex civilizations. The research demonstrates that Stone Age economics, while technologically simple, exhibited remarkable adaptability, sustainability, and social cooperation that enabled human expansion across diverse environments worldwide.
