| Abstract | India has a glorious history in silk production and its silk trade dates back to 15th century. Sericulture is practiced in many regions of India, where Karnataka ranks first in mulberry silk production. And it contributes about 43% of silk is in india produced in india providing lakhs of emploment oppurtunities and increasing the economical conditions of rural people. The breeds which are in the field have some of the drawbacks/constrins, so it is important to develop new breeds for better exploitation and also incresing the productivity, in this scenerio the new cross breed was developed and the comparative analysis is done below. The PM x NBH1 cross breed exhibit same larval duration as that of ruling cross breed PM x CSR2 with an average yield of cocoons of 21.4 and 1.92 kgs respectively, which was calculated per 10,000 larvae. Interestingly, an average weight of the cocoon was 2.14 g in new cross breed PM x NBH1, which was higher than the ruling cross breed PM x CSR2 (1.92 g). Similarly, the highest pupal weight of 1.79 g was also recorded in PM x NBH1 while it was 1.56 g in PM x CSR2. Eventually, an average weight of the cocoon shell was 0.35 g in new cross breed PM x NBH1, which was higher than the ruling cross breed PM x CSR2 (0.33 g). Whereas, although cocoon shell ratio is appears to be low in PM x NBH1 (16.40%) than PM x CSR2 (17.22%), it was due to highest pupal weight. Further, the cocoons of PM x NBH1 have yielded longer silk filament length of 618.3 m with high denier (3.34) while it was 569.3 m for PMxCSR2. However, renditta was 9.26 and 9.27 for PM x NBH1 and PMxCSR2 respectively which is remain same. |
