| Abstract | This report explores the life and contributions of Dara Shikoh (1615-1659 CE), the eldest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who is renowned for his pioneering efforts in promoting interfaith harmony in India. It explores his significant scholarly works, including his translations of Hindu scriptures, such as the Upanishads (Sirr-i-Akbar), and his comparative religious treatise, Majma-ul-Bahrain. The report highlights his unique approach to comparative religion, rooted in Sufi mysticism, and his active engagement in intellectual dialogues with scholars and mystics from diverse traditions. Furthermore, it examines his broader contributions to cultural unity, including his patronage of arts and administrative reforms that promoted inclusivity. Despite his tragic political fate, Dara Shikoh's legacy as a visionary proponent of pluralism, rationalism, and spiritual tolerance continues to hold profound relevance in contemporary India, offering a historical model for bridging religious divides and promoting mutual understanding. |
