Retail Audit of Nature’s Basket: Insights into Premium Grocery Retail Strategy and Customer Psychology in India

Author(s) Mr. Jash Kishan Jain
Country India
Abstract This research paper presents a comprehensive retail audit of Nature’s Basket, India’s leading premium gourmet grocery retailer, to analyze how retail strategies influence consumer psychology and purchasing decisions in the upscale grocery segment. Conducted at the flagship store in Phoenix Palladium Mall, Mumbai, the audit employed direct observation, photographic documentation, and systematic analysis of key retail elements including pricing, visual merchandising, store layout, product placement, secondary visibility, and promotions.
The findings highlight how Nature’s Basket leverages psychological pricing (prestige, charm, and bundle pricing), experiential visual merchandising, curated store layouts, and omnichannel integration to create differentiated shopping experiences for affluent consumers. The study identifies critical insights such as the role of trust and quality signals, product storytelling, and customer journey segmentation in sustaining premium positioning.
Based on these insights, recommendations include enhancing interactive product education, expanding private label visibility, and strengthening digital integration for value-added customer experiences. The study contributes to understanding best practices in premium retail operations and provides strategic implications for the broader grocery retail industry in India.
