Transverse Displacement of an Isotropic Nonhomogeneous Rectangular Plate Resting on Foundation Subjected to Transverse Load

Abstract In this paper, transverse displacement analysis at the centre of a thin isotropic nonhomogeneous rectangular plate of uniform thickness resting on Winkler foundation subjected to transverse uniformly distributed load and hydrostatic pressure over the entire plate domain is presented using classical plate theory. The two opposite edges of the plate are either clamped or simply supported and the rest two edges are either clamped or simply supported or free. The Rayleigh-Ritz method with simple algebraic polynomials is used to analyse the problem. The displacements are calculated for various values of parameters and boundary conditions. The effects of nonhomogenity parameters, aspect ratio, foundation parameter and boundary conditions on displacement are examined. Numerical results for isotropic homogeneous rectangular plate with and without Winkler foundation have been compared with previously published ones and are found in good agreement.
