Author(s) Dr. Murugesan A
Country India
Abstract Saiva Siddhanta is one of the living and vibrant traditions of the Indian sub-continent for the ages. The core philosophies of Saiva Siddhanta such as; God, World, Self, Bondage and Liberation of Self are unique. The Twelve Sacred Scriptures and Fourteen Philosophical Treaties of Saiva Siddhanta describe the self’s relationship with the Almighty and World that is known as Sat and Asat relationship. Saiva Siddhanta advocates the equal relationship of self with God and the world as well. In other words, the Sat and Asat relationships are equally important in the philosophical teachings of Saiva Siddhanta. All the saints of Saiva Siddhanta taught and practiced the Sat and Asat relationships in many ways throughout their lives.
There are three important integral components of human beings namely; Intelligence, Emotion and Spirituality. They are generally called as Intelligent Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ) and Spiritual Quotient (SQ). In fact, one must know and understand that all the three IQ, EQ and SQ are inter-connected and inter-related with each other. The holistic development of human being is the development of all the three quotients. In this regard, the Sat and Asat relationships of Saiva Siddhanta emphasizes on the holistic development of an individual (IQ, EQ and SQ) and it is an adequate system to create holistic society. In other words, Saiva Siddhanta philosophy promotes the Vertical Relationship (Sat Relationship) and Horizontal Relationship (Asat Relationship) to create holistic society.
